"Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you." ~ Friedrich W. Nietzsche

Hello!

This site still receives a lotta traffic. Thank you for your continued interest.

I am still currently writing horror/suspense/pulp only in longer form. Visit my alter ego HERE for continued updates and current fiction. And please, you can call me Jodi or whatever you called me before I went all nom de plume.

Thanks for the years of loyal friendship and support.

New Story at Yellow Mama!

One lonely rest stop.

Two sisters.
Their secrets so grim,
even the reaper would kill to know.

Read
Hollow Secrets
At Yellow Mama!

The art work is amazing! A big thank you to Yellow Mama's editor, Cindy Rosmus, for a top notch presentation. I also appreciate the workshop mentality she brings to her magazine to help young authors grow.
This was my first 'real' story accepted last December. It gave me the confidence to keep writing. I appreciate Cindy taking a chance on me -
you're the best!

A second shout out to my little sister for whom this story was written.
Happy Birthday, Bobby.
Thanks for helping me drive halfway cross the country two years ago.
And... thanks for not being a serial killer.
Love you!

Wow. It was long, detailed and scary! O.O I kept creeping the scroll button down just a little extra. Great story. :D

Laura ~ Twisted, creepy - fantastic all those things a writer loves to hear. Thank you for reading, girl! I'm so glad you enjoyed.

Mike ~ Epic? I sure hope so. You are right, very fine company.

Carrie! I'm glad your scroll button was creeping and not crawling! Thanks for reading. I'm glad you liked.

Is an epic flash a short story? In any case, I loved this. Echoes of tap, tap, tap, Jodi. I like that kind of crossover in stories. King does that. This story was suspenseful and intricate. I felt nervous reading it, and glad no-one was hurt, though worried that it might only be a matter of time before the wind speaks or the demon grins again . . .

For my part, I think there was a knife.

Hey Barry,

Yes, certain stories capture my imagination, especially a handful of urban legends. I love infusing one idea into another story.

Thanks for reading. Is the older sis crazy or is there really a knife? I won't spill the beans.

Fascinating. The pace seemed a bit slow at the beginning. Great ending.

Jodi - loved this story and so pleased to see it published on Yellow Mama. There didn't seem to be any way to comment there, though. Very tense, really worked the story within a story form. Just great.

Hey Jodi,

I'm fighting my way back into a routine which includes keeping up with what friends are doing...slack me. Sorry to have been such a stranger. Thanks for the occassional pokes to get me going.

Really liked your story and congrats on the pub. Your the Yellow Mamma Queen. Homerun with the bases loaded, IMO.

Mark ~ I remember thinking the same thing when I was doing the rewrites. At the time, I was still figuring out pacing. Glad you enjoyed over all!

Ms.Pamila ~ So glad you enjoyed, hon! You are goddess when it comes to horror, so happy to get a 'great and tense' from you! Thanks for visiting my blog too. I don't think I've seen you here before. ;)

Hey John, good to see you about again. The bad guys giving you any slack yet? Thanks for taking the time to read. I doubt I'm any kind of queen, but I'm glad you enjoyed the story. ;)

Jodi,
This is one of my favorites - it really creeped me out!
Bloody kittens, the tapping of the wind actually being Jack's blood on the windshield, and the hollow secrets of the sister's true nature...outstanding!
I keep some stories that I print out, and this one's going to the top pile.

Creepy girl. One of your best. I'm pretty weirded out now, though (you know I'm squeamish). Congrats - great pub. You're going great guns. Peace, Linda

Erin ~ I'm so tickled you picked up on it all. These are a few of the creepiest things...just kidding (actually not). I'm flattered you want to keep this story on the black and white. I'm looking forward to your own dose of horror this month on your website! Thanks girl!

Linda,
LOL, I know this isn't exactly your preferred genre so I'm flattered you enjoyed. Sorry about the squeamish. Um...chocolate? Thanks for reading!

I'm hoping to post some horrors... maybe November? on my blog and elsewhere, if I can get one published.
Although there is only 12 for the 13 Days, one of our great writer friends is double posting:)
Congrats again!

Wickedly twisted story, Jodi. I always enjoy your writing. All the little subtleties that come together make your work so much fun to read. Awesome job.

First off, the other day, I dropped my work ID badge between the car seat and the center console…and I know it would've been faster to open my eyes and look for it, but I wouldn't look! I wouldn't!

Very suspenseful tale, Jodi. Your character development was spot on. It's got such a great urban folk tale feel to it, and along side the complimentary artwork over at Mama's, it's a story that will haunt me for a very long time. You continue to kick ass with your writing, Jodi. You're running out of space on that resumé of yours
;-)

Really impressive tale, Jodi. tense and not a wasted word.

Jodi MacArthur said...

Zapata - Ha Ha, can you hear those hollow secrets too? Phew, I thought I was loosing my mind there for a moment. And thanks. ;)

Paul ~ Glad you enjoyed!
