Flashes In The Dark is holding a Lycanthropy Contest! It ends on April 21st, so you still have time to enter.
My story
Disenchanted Evening
is up today! Please stop by for a read & thrill.
(Thank you to editor, Lori Titus!)
For those of you who are curious about the musical roots of this story and want to watch some half decent videos. Here you go. (Be sure to mute the music player below)
Original Song this story was inspired by
Between evenings of writing the story, I listened and watched
Sara Brightman and Antonio Banderas sing Phantom of The Opera
(Note: I love Sara Brightman's voice, but she's a terrible actor.)
This video and music inspired the setting
Into The Ocean By October Blue
And well, I don't know. Why the heck not? Just your typical ravenous werewolf music

Blogger is 'pretending' it's Monday, and posted this a day early. Silly Blogger. That's what it gets for rhyming with frogger.
Hey Jodi... I went to Flashes. Didn't see your story posted yet. Will check back.
BTW... grooving to "The Midnight Special" ... Good stuff.
Thanks, Ant. Yeah the story doesn't go up until tomorrow (monday). This post posted early. I like that song too. ;-)
Just read your story. Awesomeness. Probably the only time I will be amused by mosquitos. Good luck with the contest.
On an unrelated note, your player is on Metric's Gimmie Sympathy. Saw them perform it live at the Junos last night. Amazing!
Thank you, Laurita!
Seriously? You were at a live performance of Metric? Oh I'm so so so JEALOUS. I've been listening to their music for weaks. ADDICTED. We need to go concert hopping together. Same taste in music.
Read and commented on Disenchanted Evening when I saw Lori tweet about it, then came here and found all sorts of other goodies. Thanks for shouting out about the contest deadline, may give it a go.
Go for it Barry! And thank you. ;-)
Jody, So very well done with your tale. Really not a word out of place with great tension and simply grand payoff. Angel is right a novel in so few words. Kudos.
Always look forward to your stories and really enjoyed this one. You need to teach a class on atmosphere...well, maybe I need to take a class on atmosphere :)
PS - as strange as the music you listen to, it is no surprise that your yarns are just as creepy
Thank you Mike and Erin ;-)
ps. Erin, you do a great job with atmosphere. Your Muse is spot on.
So, you inspired me to throw my own hack-hat into the ring for the Lycanthropy contest.
We'll see how that goes, I went in a sort of "different" direction.
How to get over writer's block? Read great stories!
Write on, Chris! Inspiration is where its at. Hit us with your best shot! Lookin forward to it. ;-)
That was a sweet story, those damn twittering wolves! I like that part.
Thanks, Mr. C!
Love the record cover too - The Verlaines rock. Such excellent antipodean taste in music. ;-)
Bravo on your werewolf story, just got back from the read and boy are my arms tired...wait, wrong joke.
Do you know the joke that goes with the South Pacific song?
Bunch of monks live under a vow of silence, but at breakfast when the Head Monk greets them with "Good morning" they can reply in kind as a group. Well this one little feisty bugger decides one day instead of "Good morning" to say "Good Evening". The Head Monk might be old, but he's got ears like a fox. His head jerks up and he scowls around the room and says, "Someone chanted evening."
Lame. Sorry.
--John
The Verlaines DO rock, Sean!
And Mr. Towler. I'll never be able to listen to the song (or watch the movie) without your joke in mind. EVER. Excuse me while I go cry...
