Spinetingler Magazine's Brian Lindenmuth was very kind and awesome to ask me for a Conversations with the Bookless interview. It's up today. If you can stand one more of my interviews, check it out here.
A handful of you have noticed I've slipped out of existence recently. The good news is that I AM still in existence, but caring for a loved one who has been in the hospital and is going through a very troubled and trying time right now. The adjustment has been difficult, and you probably won't see me online until May or so.
Do know that I am still writing and that my muse has been feasting more than ever on new things I've been learning. So I hope you all are keeping up (ha ha).
Miss you all!
J. Mac

Hmmm...keep getting posting error at Spinetingler, so I'm gonna post my two cents here:
Jodi writes like a freak. I mean it. One of the definitions for Freak is "impulsive." I think that summarizes Jodi's characters very well. They never conform to the norm, they are a product of whatever comes next, and that impulsive behavior gives them "true" life, not the flat paperback kind, but the 3D pop-up variety.
Most writers wouldn't consider saying they have nothing to do with their own writing. "Saying" something like this takes balls-- yeah, don't ask me how I know, but Jodi got balls -- more importantly, "living" like this takes complete surrender of the soul. It's the difference between a writer living as slave to their muse, or becoming the embodiment of its voice.
I can't wait for Jodi's bookless years to be over.
BTW, good call on Pamela Payne and Sean Monaghan.
Cool about the interview. I'll check it out. Hope your loved one gets better soon.
Loved the interview, Jodi. You never hold back, and that's what we want and like.
Your "bookless" days are coming to an end, and they'll go down blazing! Never judge yourself as a writer on what you don't have, but on what you have produced. Ten fucking cool stories is better than twenty shitty novels. I think you put it similar in your interview.
Best to you and your loved one.
Cool interview J. I like the "I’ll keep this up until I find a good agent, or until hell freezes over" - exactly you... you'll write no matter what, part of what I admire about you. Thanks too to Brian.
(ps. thanks for the mention - wow, grinning).
Angel ~ You are the only person in the world that could call me an impulsive writing freak with balls of the 3D pop of variety and I’d totally nod and feel that straight from the heart, bro. ;-) Thank you for the kind words, Ang.
Charles ~ Thank you for the good vibes. It’s going to be a long trek.
Erin~ True! Love the way you put it. That made laugh. I might just have to quote you on that one. Thank you for the good energy and kind words.
Sean~ Thank you. And I think I can see that grin from sea to shining sea. ;-) You are a damn good writer and I hope more people discover your writing this year (and that you write more serial killer stories).
Appreciate all of you.
And apparently the site is having bug problems, so that is why you were unable to leave a comment. I appreciate you leaving them here though. ;-)
wtg jodes, i always want to hear what you have to say..
Thanks, Mike S. I've been meaning to tell you I loved your article on matzo brei and your family's tradition. The pictures were neat too.
You always have the best interviews. You're answers are part clever, part hilarious, part thought provoking, all awesome.
Best to you, girl, and to your loved one.
Jodi,
Just read the interview. It would take me at least a day for each damn question and I'd still come off sounding like an idiot - compared to those great comments/answers you gave.
A tremendous, insightful interview. Unique and brilliant...share some of that would'ja?
Laurita, Thanks hon. Hope its warming up there and that you didn't get any zombie bunnies in your easter basket. ;-)
Jim- Well, HAIL, mister I appreciate the praise, but if makes you feel any better I feel like an idiot when answering interview questions. I saw your post on that hail storm the other day. Amazing!
